Chest project.
This was a simple toy chest for an auction at my kids school. I saw it as
an opportunity to create a toy chest that would last a lifetime. I made it
of pine with full, through dove tail joints. After building it, I cut off
the top and hinged it. A shellac finish would prepare it for what would
happen next.
The kids painted it and then added their fingerprints all across it. It
looked wonderful. I don't know who has it today.
Here's the initial shell before the top was added. | In this shot, we've added the top and it's now a fully enclosed box. |
Once the top was cut off, I installed a piano hinge across the back for safety. | Here's how it looks opening up. |
Here's the final smug grin before the project leaves my shop forever... | |
