Chest project.  This was a simple toy chest for an auction at my kids school.  I saw it as an opportunity to create a toy chest that would last a lifetime.  I made it of pine with full, through dove tail joints.  After building it, I cut off the top and hinged it.  A shellac finish would prepare it for what would happen next.
The kids painted it and then added their fingerprints all across it.  It looked wonderful.  I don't know who has it today.

Here's the initial shell before the top was added. In this shot, we've added the top and it's now a fully enclosed box.

Once the top was cut off, I installed a piano hinge across the back for safety. Here's how it looks opening up.

Here's the final smug grin before the project leaves my shop forever...
